Dream Haven Farm Equine Therapy
About Dream Haven Farm, LLC
As an horse lover and a people person, I have had careers in both working with both horses, and children and adults with disabilities. Born in Monmouth County, New Jersey in 1973, I was introduced to horses from a very early age. My father signed me up for horse back riding lessons at a local stable starting at age 6. I have never stopped riding horses since then! I competed in Combined Training Events as a teen which I loved for the speed and thrill of cross country jumping. Not attending college was not an option according to my parents, so in 1992 we packed my bags, and my horse, Mick, and headed to Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, VA. After two years, I headed back north to University of Delaware where I completed my BS degree in Special Education, with a concentration in severe disabilities. Upon graduation, I spent some time doing ABA Therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis) with children with Autism. While I truly loved working with my little kiddos, I realized I only had a small window of time to pursue my athletic dreams and became an amateur jockey! In 2004 I delivered my first daughter, and my second daughter followed in 2007. I was extremely fortunate to have been able to stay at home with them until my younger one was about three. At that point I decided to go back into the special education field. I worked in separate setting/self contained classrooms in Wake and Chatham Counties for over 5 years. I decided late last year that I needed to go in a different direction, including completing my Masters degree in Autism/ABA.
I have always wanted to combine my passion of teaching children and adults with special needs with my of horses. My husband and I decided that now was the perfect time to pursue this dream! We truly love being able to provide this type of service to our local families right here on our property. I feel like my life is complete having the best of both of these worlds!
